The LGBT Detroit Leadership Academy for Mentors and Protégés
Assisting Detroit’s LGBT young adults develop a positive lesbian, gay, bi and trans identity while being successful in their personal and professional lives.
About
Since 2012, the LGBT Detroit Leadership Academy for Mentors and Protégés (The Academy) has uplifted, supported and inspired LGBT+ young adults to think critically and support their peers. LGBT Detroit, the largest LGBT+ center in North America for Black and Brown folks, has always searched for young leaders that will continue the work in The Movement. Now celebrating our tenth year of developing new leaders, The Academy continues to provide culturally appropriate education on LGBT+ Black history, engaging in civil discourse, understanding HIV transmission and prevention and addressing HIV stigma. In addition to educating, The Academy seeks to provide support and guidance to LGBT+ young adults looking for a mentor.

We work with local advocates, educational institutions and other in the community to further the awareness of LGBTQ issues to diminish marginalization from mainstream society.
Young Adult Board of Advisors
The LGBT Detroit Leadership Academy is LGBT Detroit’s commitment to provide support and development to Detroit’s LGBT+ young adult population. The Academy provides extensive education centered on the topics of Leadership, HIV and Supporting Community. Once the Academy concludes, LGBT Detroit provides opportunity for graduates to engage Young Adult Board Advisors. An advisory board of LGBT Detroit that focuses on LGBT+ young adult issues that assists in LGBT Detroit’s relevancy in The Movement. Advisors provide guidance on programming, engagement and young adult issues impacting their peers.
